Our competition squad (National Champs from last year) are competing in their first competition this Sunday and they still don't know their whole routine! I'm beyond a ball of nerves right now. They have some junior high girls on their team, so they are competing in a different level this year, which ups the ante. Since the junior high girls get out of school later than the elementary girls, practices are held later in the night at the junior high cafeteria (the only place available). They have no mats and limited space. Getting the lines perfectly straight and everyone knowing where they are supposed to be placed is SO important. Now can you see why I'm nervous?!
The coach is having them practice extra hours this week (5 1/2 hours total) plus they already had their tumbling practice so hopefully everything gets perfected. The practices have been closed so us parents haven't even seen what they have so far, but the coach is going to let us into the last half hour of the last practice on Friday. Jojo doesn't seem nervous, just frustrated that they aren't where they were this time last year.
So to calm my nervous body, some of the moms and I are going for dinner and drinks tonight while the girls practice. Hopefully a few drinks and some good food and conversation will calm the nerves. I certainly don't want to pass my nervousness onto Jojo or any of the other girls. Wish us luck!
