Quite a scare...

Yesterday Jakey gave me major heart palpitations. I had laid him down for a nap (yes my 4 year old still takes a nap - not every day, but there are days when he really needs one to regroup) and was listening to him playing around in bed. Reading books, playing with his Monkey George, getting up to go the bathroom, etc. I tucked him back in and said "Try to get a little nap in before we go get Mason from the bus." After about 20 minutes I can hear him snoring so I did some cleaning around the house and went out to shovel. When I came in I realized that I needed to get all 3 kids up and out the door in 1/2 hour. So I fly into Jakey's room and pull back the cover and there I see it...his finger tied up tight with a piece of yarn from his Notre Dame blanket. The fingertip is blue and I say out loud "OH MY GOSH JAKEY WHY DID YOU DO THIS?" His eyes fly open and he's looking at me like I'm crazy, not saying a word. I keep telling him that Mommy will fix this, as I'm untangling at least 7 inches of yarn from his finger. At last I get it all unraveled and I tell him to start wiggling his finger. He's still looking at me like I'm crazy but he listens and wiggles it. The color starts returning to normal, but I still couldn't resist the urge to scoop him up (still wide-eyed) and hold him. We had a long talk about tying things on your body and he pinky promised me he would NEVER do that again.

Oh my gosh, I would have freaked too and inevitably started crying when I realized it was okay.

They sure do keep us on our toes, right?

Kind of like Keith putting a marble up his nose....boys will always do strange things. I don't think they can resist it.
